The Boondock Saints was the sleeper hit of the end of the 20th century. It had the perfect combination of grit, action, and quotable lines that put it into fans’ top 10 favorite movies of all time. People can’t seem to get enough of the story (despite its not-so-well-received sequel), and thankfully Innfusion and 12 Gauge Comics gave us a story worth pining for. Written by director Troy Duffy and inked by J.B Love, In Nomine Patris follows a new story of Connor and Murphy. This story intertwines with the events of the second feature movie, and even features a story about the original saint, Noah McManus.
The art style of the comic feels very grainy. The character details are usually sparse, which gives the whole story the grit that made the first movie so great. The story may not quite have the depth that the movie has, but it is certainly worth the read.
Two special editions of this comic are available for hardcore fans. The hardcover special edition is limited to 850 pieces, which includes 16 additional pages not seen in the previously released issues. The Black Label Edition is limited to 150 pieces, and is signed by Troy Duffy himself. The set also includes six mini posters showing each of the covers for the six issues. . It is certain to have fans of the movies and other comics drooling for more.
This comic is certainly worth the read. It is certain to have fans of the movies and other comics drooling for more. Even those who haven’t seen the movies or know the story at all can find something to like in this story. However, anyone who hasn’t seen the movie should get it on their Netflix cue immediately. Just the first one though.
