ABC Renews ‘Modern Family’ and Five Others

ABC has gotten ahead of the game and given 2011-2012 pickups for six returning series with more potentially in the wings as soon as contract issues are handled. The six renewed series are comedies Modern Family, The Middle, and Cougar Town with dramas Private Practice and Grey’s Anatomy also coming back for seconds. The final series is dramedy Castle.

The absence of Sunday staples Desperate Housewives and Brothers & Sisters may cause some confusion, however a contract issue with the leads on the former have keep it from being picked up at the moment and there’s a 50/50 shot B&S takes a final bow in May.
